R
May 2019, I went to Oslo to visit the Danses Hus to see some new contemporary dance performances and to visit the Astrup Fearnley Collection, located at a wonderful spot near the waterfront.
I was impressed by the work of Olav Christopher Jenssen, more specific by “Lack of Memory / Vanish 1991 - 1992” a painting I really admired. As I’ve been an art student in the early 90’s, I recognized in some of the paintings the atmosphere of paintings of
Marc Maet (1955 - 2000), my teacher at the time.
An analysis of what I thought, brought up two words:
“degeneration and surviving “.
It inspired me to write the poem “R”.
“R” is the sign of the gear to drive backwards. Looking in the rearview mirror... That imaginary feeling is what you can find in the Norwegian poem I wrote at the shore.
I watched the water surface and saw that the Scandinavian light on the water movements created a contemporary Monet like waterlilies impression. It made me think of a visit with someone valuable to
L’ Orangerie in Paris. I tried to catch the momentum and brought the poem and the film together. I recorded the music with all this in mind.
